How We Treat Cancer

Lung Cancer

HOPE for LUNG CANCER
Although lung cancer is often thought of as nearly incurable, there is reason for optimism. Advanced Alternatives offers specialized methods of natural therapy directed at the root causes or the malignancy and by activating the natural defenses of the body against cancer. The main ways in which the Advanced Alternatives programs for lung cancer work are 1) activate and strengthen the immune system, 2) detoxify the lungs and the rest of the body, 3) activate the natural defenses of the body against cancer found in the genes of the cancer cells. Conventional methods of lung cancer treatment are slowly improving, particularly with the addition of new drugs that do not work simply by trying to poison the body and the lung cancer cells within it. These new drugs act more naturally through mechanisms such as cutting down the blood supply to the tumors and activating anti-cancer genes in the tumors.

SYMPTOMS of LUNG CANCER
Persistent cough, or cough with blood tinged sputum, are often the symptoms that cause a patient to go to their doctor when lung cancer has developed. However, lung cancer can exist within the lungs for extended periods of time with little or no outward symptoms. For this reason, those particularly at risk for developing lung cancer are encourage to have periodic chest x-rays and physical exams. People who smoke cigarettes, and those who have other known risk factors for lung cancer such as exposure to asbestos, are especially encouraged to know the signs and symptoms of lung cancer.

SIGNS of LUNG CANCER
Clinical signs are those findings a doctor makes when examining a patient and their tests. In lung cancer, these signs include things such as 1) a mass on chest radiograph x-rays, 2) abnormal sounds in the lungs when the physician listens to them with a stethoscope, and 3) dullness to percussion when the doctor taps his fingers over the bottom portions of the lungs.

TYPES of LUNG CANCER
Many different varieties of malignancy of the lungs are known to exist. They include squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, large cell carcinoma, broncho-alveolar carcinoma, mixed pulmonary carcinoma, and undifferentiated pulmonary carcinoma. Other methods of classification include the terms Small Cell Lung Carcinoma SCLC and Non-small Cell Lung Carcinoma NSCLC Because Small Cell Lung Carcinoma SCLC is often wise spread at the time it is first discovered, options for its treatment are often limited. In particular, it may not be reasonable to operate to remove the tumors when Small Cell Lung Carcinoma SCLC is first discovered. However, Non-small Cell Lung Carcinoma NSCLC is more likely to be amenable to the option of surgery when first discovered, since it is often not as widely spread when it is initially found.

Based on these concerns about the methods of available conventional treatment at the time of diagnosis, doctors often place all the various types of lung cancer into two large groups. The groups are 1) Small Cell Lung Carcinoma SCLC and 2) Non-small Cell Lung Carcinoma NSCLC. Included within the category of Non-small Cell Lung Carcinoma NSCLC are squamous cell carcinoma, large cell carcinoma, and adenocarcinoma. Small Cell Lung Carcinoma SCLC is determined by the pathologist physician examining the portions of tumor or sputum under a microscope and noting that the cells are not any of the Non-small Cell Lung Carcinoma NSCLC types, and are histologically different (look different under the microscope) from NSCLC.

Non-small Cell Lung Carcinoma NSCLC Sub-Types

ADENOCARCINOMA
Adenocarcinoma is often located at the edge of the lungs, and found in small solitary nodules or masses. Adenocarcinoma can also occur as scar cancer.

SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA
Squamous cell carcinoma is similar in some respects to non-small cell lung carcinoma in that both squamous cell carcinoma and non-small cell lung carcinoma are often found in the central portions of the lungs and may present as a pneumonia or atelectasis. Atelectasis is a word referring to areas of collapsed lung tissue. Adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are not alike in that squamous cell carcinomas are not usually located at the periphery of the lungs, and squamous cell carcinoma does not often appear in small groupings of cells called tumors or cancerous nodules, or as scar cancer.

LARGE CELL CARCINOMA
Large cell carcinomas are malignancies similar to both adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma in that they are often found at the edges of the lungs, in nodules, discreet solitary masses or tumors, and as scar carcinoma.

CAUSES of LUNG CANCER
Different types of lung cancer are thought to be causes by specific agents. In particular, mesothelioma and adenocarcinoma of the lung are known to be caused by the long term or old exposure to asbestos. Cigarette and cigar smoke are accepted as causes of many types of lung cancers. In a very small percentage of lung cancer patients, there is no known exposure to smoking or other major known risk factors for the development of lung cancer. The toxins found in smoke are assumed by many to be the chemical cause of the development of lung cancer in patients. For this reason, scientifically detecting and measuring toxins is thought to be important in alternative medicine.

Long term exposure to mineral or metal dust is thought to cause small cell carcinoma of the lung and squamous cell lung cancer. This again points to the need for detection and removal of toxins and toxic metals, such as is done in the Advanced alternatives program for lung cancer.

CONVENTIONAL TREATMENT
Surgery is a common first course of treatment for lung cancer malignant tumors of the non-small cell cancer type. Radiation and chemotherapy are also commonly used in the conventional treatment of lung malignancies.

PROGNOSIS
Generally, the prognosis for lung cancers is poor when conventional therapy alone is used. Squamous cell cancers of the lung are often slow to grow and develop. Squamous cell cancers of the lung often take several years to develop into the dangerous from of lung cancer known as invasive lung cancer. Small cell lung cancer tends to be a more aggressive type than the non-small cell lung cancers and is quicker to metastasize (spread to distant sites and other organs of the body).

NATURAL TREATMENT
The Advanced Alternatives program for lung cancer takes the specifics of each case into consideration. Programs are designed for each individual as each person and their cancer are unique. Their cancer, even though perhaps superficially the same type as other people have, is special and must be evaluated and treated as such. Advanced Alternatives uses RA Therapy, detoxification, and immune strengthening methods to activate all the known bodily defenses against the cancer, and against the residual harmful side-effects of chemotherapy or radiation that may have been administered to the patient. The Advanced Alternatives program rarely causes adverse or harmful side-effects and is safe to use even in conjunction with conventional therapy such as chemotherapy or radiation.

How We Treat Cancer

Every person and their case of cancer or other illness is unique. The cases presented here should not be taken as being "typical". Others may respond differently to our therapies. We encourage every patient to learn of all their options in both natural and conventional medical care. There are many additional sources of information for patients and their families to research, including their own local licensed physician. We do not claim to have any sure and certain "cure" for any disease, but endeavor to bring our best medical knowledge to bear on each case.
